• June 25, 2009 - Shipwrecks Discovered Off NC's Currituck Banks (Corolla, NC)
On June 20, 2009, the Currituck Banks shipwreck project kicked off it's operations with the discovery of three potential new shipwrecks off North Carolina's Currituck Banks. Remote sensing survey operations using side scan sonar were conducted last Saturday revealing possibly two confirmed new shipwrecks, and potentially a third. Project divers conducted exploratory visits to two of the sites to confirm their findings. "We're very excited with our initial findings. The area holds many more secrets that we are eager to unravel," Project Director Brad Dalton.
