Welcome to the Currituck Banks Historic Shipwreck Project. Our mission is to search the waters along North Carolina's Currituck Banks in an effort to locate and identify long forgotten shipwrecks. This particular stretch on North Carolina's Outer Banks was the scene of many shipping incidents from the first European explorers during the 1500’s, onward through present day.

The area is remotely situated on the northern extreme of the barrier islands that make up NC's Outer Banks. Research indicates that many ships experienced some form of difficulty in neighboring waters. Some vessels were able to return to their trade, many more were not so fortunate. Many vessels vanished without report.
